I know it's hard to see, but I used my new perfect pearls on her hair, and on the edges of the tag!

SC challenge # 19

I have loved the Saturated Canary "usherette" since I first saw her! 

 (find her here!)

And I kept saying "I'll use her for this..." or "I'll use her for that..."

Well today was finally the day! 

Over at the facebook Smash* aholics page there is a challenge to use a digi in your smash*book

So finally a chance to use the pretty usherette and some of my old movie stubs

I used some copics, and prismacolor markers to color her in, then snipped her out and smashed her down!

I also got a chance to use some of the amazing box of ric rack I found this weekend at an estate sale...

I added a little writing, and an xo sticker... doodled a little around the "frame" and added some hearts! 

I Love her!!!

ICAD catch up

 I have been a bad ICAD(er?) this week.... 

(If you don't know what an ICADer is go to daisy yellow and check it out!!!)   

As mentioned before I was caught up this week at Jury duty and helping my mother in law at her new shop!  

However today I'm working some overtime (at my regular job) 

and so I thought it would be a good time to catch up on all my missed ICAD's!

  

#9 Alphabet

I am in love with twine, and went to the bakery again yesterday (it's conveniently located down the street from said mother in laws new shop!)

 #8 Mexican plate

I googled "mexican plate" and did my best to copy what I saw! 

#7 Floral

I found a pack of doilies at an estate sale on Thursday, so I cut some pieces off, colored them with my copics and added some leaf details! LOVE! 

#6 Bon Voyage

I still wanted to use the fish prompt, and figured this was the best one to play with!  

So yes, those are fish, not turtles... although turtles would be cute and fun too!!!

#5 Blossom

I was at jury duty, on the 5th floor of the brand new court building, and looking out the windows is a beautiful old building that has a beautiful scroll work on it at the top! 

I tried to duplicate, but didn't even come close... The #33 was my number in the selection pool!  Luckily after two days I got excused!

 What have you done that's creative today???  You still have time!!!

Card swap part deux

I couldn't leave well enough alone...

I had to do a second card for the swap

This wonderful saturated canary image is called Dorothy... Duh!!

She was so much fun to color... All 6 times I did!!

I added a little bit of polka dots to her socks, and some glitter glue to her shoes.

After all don't her shoes make her??

The background I added some quilting and sewing.

I'm entering this card in the q is for quilt challenge over at abc challenge. 

I used my copics, prismacolor and a bic marker to color her..

And finally hubby used my new typewriter to "print" the sentiment on the side.

Isn't she a lovely card???

ICAD #3

Things you would take on a journey or trip:

Since I did this one while sitting at my desk at work, I mostly just used my copic markers...

I wanted it to be colorful!

Card Swap

After working 9 hours of overtime.... I hit a wall

I knew I needed to come home and create 5 fabulous handmade cards

for a swap with the girls....

I also have made a resolution to not buy any new product in the month of June

I sat in the studio trying to put together different patterns for the card....

Frustrated I grabbed my purse and headed to Joann's

After wandering the aisles for a while 

I Walked out!!!

That's right, I left without buying anything!

I came home and made this wonderful card

The ice cream cone digi stamp I got from wings and willows (a super blog... check it out...)

I colored it with my copic's and prismacolor markers,

The red paper I made using some fun stamps I embossed onto plain white 

and then I used my "barn door" distress ink to make it the pretty red...

Both the polka dot and red paper is sewn on the edges using... that's right, my sewing machine! 

Then I had to add some pretties to the envelopes

And the flap side

On the inside of the card I stamped "thinking of you" from the stamp set I won from denami 

Voila!  I'm excited to give them away, and to get some fun cards in return.

Index card a day #1

Quite a while back I stumbled upon daisy yellow an amazing blog

that explores art journals and is generally just 

heavy on colors and textures!

Just up my alley

Starting June 1st she is doing ICAD, or an Index Card a Day

It's a challenge to do something on an index card every day!

She gives a prompt, and also gives idea's of what to use

Today is day 1, 

the prompt is "Take a Voyage"

This is my card... I distressed the edges,

and in the true spirit of the saying I tried my hand at drawing an Eiffel Tower

did some stamping and the writing, added a few old postage stamps and voila! 

So if your feeling adventurous, and are ready to take on a daily challenge...

Check out ICAD!  it's a no pressure way to try new stuff... without it "counting against you"

A Summer Bookmark

I Love Bingo!!!

Hubby thinks I should actually be about 65 years old....

But I Love Bingo!!!!

So when I saw the Bingo 2 Week challenge over at shoppingourstash I KNEW I was going to participate!

Of course I also love saturated canary's challenge, so for my first combo challenge, I did this little beauty

For SC the challenge this week is bookmark, 

it's perfect for that summer book I'll be picking up soon!

For the Bingo challenge I had to incorporate glitter, pearls, distressing, blue, and flower...

I love the glitter in her hair... feels like she got some sand stuck in her locks

I also got a chance to use my new denami stamps that you may remember I won in a blog hop last weekend.. That's the little butterfly, embossed and painted with pearl watercolors!
I also incorporated some of the twine I got in that same win from the twinery to the ribbon's at the top of the bookmark..

The pearls and flower I tied together in my handmade flower which is also blue

There is some distressing on the edges of the bookmark, and I also used ranger distress inks and a little punchinella on the side of the bookmark.

Another Birthday Card

As promised I have some eye candy for today!!! 

This little beauty was a little bit of some left overs that I found in my studio.

The picture is from saturated canary's talented artist Krista Smith.  I colored it with copic and prismacolor markers.

The card I got on clearance in Hobby lobby, and the papers I've had for literally years!!!  

The little 3 and 5 are stamped with embossing ink, and then clear embossed, and then I distressed the paper with Ranger inks. and attached a brad.

It was a pretty quick card since I had already colored the digi stamp! 

I made this pretty little girl for my sister Tanya... so if your reading, sorry to spoil your card... but it's obviously MUCH better in person!!!  Enjoy!!

Orange

Create an orange page!

It's such a bright and happy color... but how do you make a whole page of orange???

This page is similar to one that I saw online, and while I should have written down the site, I didn't, and then of course I couldn't find the site... Luckily for me I did however write down some of the things on the page... This is my version of that page.  

I journaled exactly what I was doing at the time I was doing it.... 

The background is orange watercolors mixed with wild honey Ranger ink, and orange glitter watercolors.  The lettering is stamped using black soot Ranger ink.  And the white writing is a jelly roll.  

This page was super easy to make, and I love that it went together so quickly!

Birthday card/ challenge #16

Mom and dad came to stay with us for the last week. It's been an adventure and just so much fun to have them in the same house. Of course it makes me miss them that much more when they leave.
Luckily I got to spend a few hours of moms birthday with her!! I made her this little lovely to celebrate. Of course the digi is from saturated canary!!

Journaling with a group

If you've checked out my bio at all you know that I moved to Arizona from Florida a few years ago.  And while I wasn't much of an "artist" while I was in Florida, I fancy that I have much more of an artistic streak now.  And while I have my very safe haven of my studio craft room I have found that it's important to have someone to bounce ideas off of. 

Since my work schedule has been all over the road for the last 4 years, it's been hard for me to stay with a group! 

First there was a group of quilters/ sewers that I met through a friend.  I was (and still am) a novice to the world of quilting, and it was great to have some older women who could give me tips and tricks to get things done!  Sadly this group met on Wednesdays, and when my work schedule changed so did my ability to go.

Then last year I wanted to try my hand at cake decorating.  I signed up for a class at a Joanns, that was cancelled, and rescheduled, and then cancelled again.  I finally got into a class and it was awesome to have others that were learning the same thing as me.  However when the class ended, and I signed up for the next one, it was cancelled, and changed, and cancelled and changed again.  I got annoyed and moved on to something else.

January is usually a month of resolutions and beginning new things.  As I looked around my studio I saw a lot of remnants of started projects, and thought what can I possibly do with these?  Enter art journaling.  It is a perfect outlet for trying new things, and of course using up some of those old things too! 

After about a month of going it on my own I turned to meetup to find a group of likeminded artists friends that I could bounce ideas off of, and get inspiration from their work as well.  I found a great group that meets periodically at the local starbucks.  How wonderful to know that there are others doing what I'm doing, and they are willing to share their knowledge with little old me!  What tools have you used to jumpstart your art??  Where do you go for inspiration??

Challenge #15

I had to read the rules twice before I determined that an art journal/ smash book entry would be fine! 

This is my first entry to the saturated canary challenge I am super excited to start using these fun digi stamp creations by Krista you can find them in her store here. 

This is my big beauty!  

I used copic and prismacolor markers to color her.  

And her close up!

The background for the page was painted with a wash of glitter watercolors, and the raindrops are of the same.

Some of the raindrops have a little Ranger Distress Crackle paint on them.
